In April 2009, the historic Fazenda Sempre Firme in Bahia, Brazil, found new stewards in Bertil Åkesson and Dr. Angelo Calmon de Sa. Nestled within the biodiverse richness of the Mata Atlantica forest, this 120 ha cocoa plantation is a testament to sustainability and community. Revered by locals as a “Paraiso” (paradise), the farm is a beacon of social and environmental harmony.
The highlight of Fazenda Sempre Firme is its cultivation of the “parasinho” cocoa variety, a traditional forester cocoa that once brought fame to Bahia in the early 20th century. From these esteemed beans comes a chocolate that’s as rich in history as it is in flavor. With a smooth, woody, and earthy profile, each bite takes you on a journey through autumnal scents, hints of tobacco, and a subtle nod to the local pitanga fruit.
