This exciting coffee is produced by Alaka Washing Station, together with small coffee growers based around the the village of Alaka in the woreda of Hambela in Guji, Ethiopia.

Alaka station is owned by Metad group, local company established to grow, produce and export Specialty Coffee. This lot is a community blend of quality coffee cherries from local growers who are living just around the Alaka village and who each cultivate small plots of land for food products, cash crops and coffee production.

For us this coffee stood out with its clean and bright, fruit forward and floral profile. Bright citric acidity and fruity yet delicate and almost tea like, aromatic and sweet coffee. Beautiful representation of Ethiopian coffee.

We found this coffee to be very clean, bright, juicy yet delicate. Tasting fruity sweet with notes of citrus and florals with bright citric acidity and really nice aromatics.

This coffee was very good, but strangely did not taste anything like the description states. Is it possible that there has been a mixup? I picked up very litt acidity and no fruit. Perhaps my taste buds aren’t trained experts, but a «classic» coffee from Ethiopia I’m usually able to identify, and this just didn’t seem like one. Curious!

I won’t say it’s impossible, but it is highly unlikely that we’d get a coffee mixed up. We packed one coffee at a time and had a lot of checks in place to make sure every coffee got into the correct tube.

…I actually have the same impression. It tasted not even close to any Ethiopian coffee I‘ve ever tasted. Definitely far off the description and literally no fruity notes at all from my point of view. Kind regards

I tried the coffee again and I’d say I taste a lot of black tea and lemon – which would be pretty typical of a washed Ethiopian. The beans were also very typical washed Ethiopian so I can pretty confidently say there wasn’t a mix-up.

Very black tea and lemon, yeah. But with so different coffees and “one shot, one opportunity”-brewing, I get a few messed up brews.

    • Jonah says:

Definitely not a mix up in my opinion–tasted like an excellent Ethiopian coffee w/ delicate florals, citrus, and stonefruit & melon. I cupped the coffee too, so I feel confident I experienced an honest representation of its profile.

Reminiscent of orange (frukt), orange blossom, tangerine, makrut lime. Judging by Kaffebox description, this coffee sounds/tastes like a representation of the terroir

  3. Sander Hasselberg says:

Spotted the Etiopia soil rigth away, no doubt about it.

Just kidding 😅 I was not sure if this was from south America or Ethiopia. Also the acidity reminded me of a fermented Kenya. All in all great coffe! Used a fine grind setting and the sibarista filter on the v60 and the taste matched the description. Great coffe! But could not find out who is the roaster.
